Shearing is a commonly used method to cut metal. During the shearing process, an upper blade and a stationary lower blade are forced past each other to remove a portion of the metal stock. Hydraulic shearing machines cut, bend, press, and punch metal sheets and plates. Metals that are commonly sheared include:
- Stainless Steel
- Aluminum
- Brass
When metal is inserted into a hydraulic shearing machine, the metal is secured by strong clamps to prevent shifting under powerful pressure. A back gauge or squaring arm ensures cuts are even and smooth for 90-degree cuts. The metal shearing process is used with nearly any diameter part and is cost-effective for high-output operations. In metal shearing machines, the blades are mounted at an angle to reduce the shearing force required to produce the cut.
Accurshear Machines Provide Excellent Results
At DS Pipe & Steel, we use a state-of-the-art Accurshear machine to cut and shear metal pieces. The Accurshear’s standard features set it apart in the industry and ensure continued success with thousands of machines shipped across the country.
The Accurshear has a fully welded boxed-in bed table structure to balance the torsion load from the cutting force. The maximum rigidity, combined with the table design, ensures constant blade clearance and a precise cut. It uses only the highest quality shear blades, specially developed to minimize re-sharpening. Depending on the capacity, high carbon, high chrome, or high carbon/shock-resisting blades are used for shearing a wide range of metals.
